Kosode
Kosode means "small sleeve," and whereas the sleeves had formerly been open at the end, the opening was made even smaller by being partially sewn up. In this development can be seen the beginning of the modern Japanese kimono.
Samurai Class Women
Women of the samurai class would not, of course, immodestly display their faces in public. For traveling they would don a veil or an elaborate headdress known as ichime-gasa because of its resemblance to an umbrella (kasa).

To shorten the kimono and keep it from dragging, they tied it with a sash around the chest. Along with the sash they wore bands on which were written prayers for a safe journey.
Japanese Girl In Kimono

Question: Wearing a kimono for a confirmation...?
Alright so my parents are dead serious about making me have a confirmation. Meh. I'll do it for my grandmother. >.>
Anyways, I want to wear a kimono to my confirmation since I love the japanese culture and its the only dress I'd be caught wearing because I hate dresses. I've heard that you have to wear simple dresses at a confirmation unlike the quincearenas or whatever they're called. Is that true?
If so, then I guess a kimino isn't all that flashy, they're actually simple or that's what I think. I don't care what the church thinks of it, I don't care what the traditional people think. I'm dead serious about wearing a kimono. *nods*
Anyways, this question is for teenage girls and girls that have done their confirmation. What do you do at a confirmation and um, what colors do you they allow? Its for the catholic church, but meh, I don't think they're much of a difference in between religions so any good confirmation experience is good. Thanks!
Answer: I had gone to a Catholic school, so when I had my confirmation there was a large group us at once. The general trend was nothing too flashy (i.e skimpy skirts or super bold prints), and to be modest overall. I think that if it were an actual kimono it would be appropriate, and you might as well wear something you like.
