Child Kimono Pattern

child kimono pattern
Question: Does anyone know where to find sewing patterns for kimono with obi?

My mum wants to make a child -size kimono for a wedding, if it is in England in June, will i get cold wearing a Yukata?

Answer: The Yukata is a casual light cotton kimono for wearing in summer. Yukatas normally have very brightly coloured designs on them. Today these kimonos are mainly worn to the traditional Bon-Odori and summer festivals. Given the cotton material, you may be cold in England in June (I was there in July and still had on a sweater every day, especially with the rain at that time).

You can find a pretty comprehensive kimono pattern at this website: http://www.japanesekimono.com/kimono_fabric.htm bur keep in mind that the kimono pattern consists of four main strips of fabric. Two patterns form the panels covering the body and two panels for the sleeves. Additional smaller strips form the narrow front panel and collar.

IA simple bathrobe pattern, with some adjustments can be made into a kimono. Check out this link for more information: http://www.geocities.com/athens/troy/5187/kimono.html

Please keep in mind that small children normally wear what is called a "hanten". Hanten are made of cotton and filled with a polyester filling much like a quilted jacket. Hantens are very colorful and bright like the kimono however are very easy to put on the child. Young girls wear the kimono exactly like an adult kimono and it consists of all the accessories. Matching zori shoes, purses, obi belts and hair accessories complete the formal dress. JapaneseGifts.com carries a nice selection of children's kimono, japanese shoes and children's kimono sash belts. Young boys wear either a kimono or happi coat. For formal occasions and festivals, the kimono is worn with a wide belt. (http://www.japanesekimono.com/childrens_kimono.htm)
