Japanese Boy Kimono

japanese boy kimono
Question: i need help on this idea for my fantasy book, please help?

right, but i'm little unsure?
i love japanese culture, but i don't ant to move too far away from british origin, if you know what i mean -

the protoganist is an orphan who goes to a school of magic, and he see's these ghostly warriors.
they have painted faces of white and elaborate regalia, quite like kimono, but obviously the men would be toned down alittle.
so they're abit like geisha, but with boys and men aswell.
any opinions or anything guys? thanks!

Answer: Questions and suggestions...

If you don't want to move too far away from British origin, then why are the ghosts all Asian-inspired? Also, why are the men toned down? I don't know if you've ever seen pictures of men in Heian-era garb, but while the colors might be a little dull compared to women's clothing, the men's clothing is also quite elaborate.

The suggestions: if you're absolutely hell-bent on making your ghosts Asian-inspired, take a look at the men's roles in traditional Japanese entertainment -- kabuki, noh, taishu engeki, and the male entertainers known as taikomochi. Though again, it sounds to me like your ghosts are NOT entertainers, so you'll probably only be looking at the entertainers for cues on appearance.

My second suggestion is to really, seriously examine your story and its originality. It's hard to judge from what little you've given us, but the basic premise of the story sounds an awful lot like Harry Potter, just with the Hogwarts ghosts replaced with fictional versions of Tomoe Gozen and Tokugawa Ieyasu.
