Zori

What are Zori?

Zori are Japanese sandals. Japanese zori sandals are worn outdoors with tabi (tabi socks).

How many types of Japanese zori sandals are there?

There are cloth Japanese zori sandals, leather zori sandals, vinyl zori sandals, and plant fibers zori sandals for zori sandals worn in the summer.

Japanese cloth zori sandals

Japanese cloth zori sandals of gold silk brocade, Saga brocade or figured brocade are for ceremonial occasions to go with ceremonial Japanese kimono.  Enamel processed leather zori sandals also serve the same purpose with ceremonial kimonos.

Height of the heels of the zori sandals

The height of the heels should be 4-5 cm when wearing a ceremonial kimono, 3.5-4 cm when wearing homongi or small pattern kimono and 2.5-3 cm for casual wear.

The color of the Japanese zori sandals

The color of the Japanese zori sandals should match the base color of the kimono or they can be coordinated with the color of the obi cord or bustle sash.
