Question: Since I am american, does this mean...?

I want to make my own manga. I am going to try to get Tokyopop to publish it. But I have a question. Since I am an American, If I publish it, It won't be manga because manga is 'Japanese Comics'. So, does that mean even if I drew all my characters Manga Style, and I set the scene in Japan, and they wore their Kimonos and Seifuukus (school uniform) it would be looked down upon and not read because it is labeled as a comic and not manga? Could it never become an anime?
I think I have a very good idea for a manga, could it ever succeed?

Answer: Manga is a comic drawn in Japanese style. Doesn't mean it has to be from Japan. Go for it. It's worth a shot.
