How To Wear A Japanese Kimono

Question: Japanese weddings?
I'm writing a story, but all I actually need is what would people attending the wedding, like guests and whatnot. Would honored people, like the father of the bride, be wearing something special? I'm thinking about something in an olden era, like kimonos and yukatas and not suits for the groom. I'm not sure how much detail I'm going to put into the wedding, but I just wanted some information. Any extra information would be helpful
Thanks!
Answer: Recently, most Japanese are having "western" weddings. But I have witnessed the goings-on at temples a few times, as a bystander. The bride wears a white kimono with a large white hood. The groom wears a black kimono. Both of these kimono styles are specifically for the bride and groom, and would have been rented for the occassion. Mothers of the bride and groom would wear a black kimono with their family crest on it. The family crest mark is small, no more than an inch wide, and white. Oh, and I have seen someone walking with the bride and groom, holding an umbrella over them. You should also put your question in Travel, Japan category where they discuss culture and traditions.

Japanese Manga With Kimonos

Question: The origin of Japanophilia in the West?
Why are some Americans so obsessed with Manga and Anime to the extent that they go off and learn Japanese and wear kimonos to school and stuff? I ask them and they never give me a straight answer.
Answer: Maybe it's because these things are not necessarily connected (e.g. most anime fans I know don't know a thing about kimono and many kimono lovers don't like anime), because they genuinely don't know how/why they got interested in something, because they're tired of people criticizing them for their interests, or because they feel no reason to justify their interest to you. Personally, I have no idea how or why I got interested in those things, they just seemed interesting and it kind of stuck. I also an sick and tired of non-Japanese who are interested in Japan being judged, labeled, and ridiculed for their interest, particularly when I don't see people who are interested in or obsessed with other cultures ridiculed to the same extent (I see some pretty crazy stuff going on in the Irish/Celtic cultural scene, and yet nobody seems to think it's fun to ridicule people for being obsessed with Irish/Celtic culture). And, for the most part, I see no good reason or need to justify my interest to total strangers with anything beyond a simple, "I just do."
