Japanese Kimonos Dresses

japanese kimonos dresses
Question: During which occasions does the Japanese dress/cloth,Kimono,being worn?

Answer: Technically speaking, you can wear kimono for any occasion you want. There are all kinds of kimono, ranging from the very informal to the very formal. The breakdown goes something like this:

Yukata - very informal, only appropriate for summer festivals or hanging out at an onsen.
Komon - Still very informal but substantially more formal than a yukata. Can be worn for almost any casual situation, like going shopping.
Iromuji - Can a HUGE range of situations depending on the number of crests and the accessories worn with it. A moderately-formal version is usually considered appropriate for things like the tea ceremony.
Tsukesage - slightly more formal than komon. Other than that I'm a bit fuzzy on the exact uses of the tsukesage, but it often overlaps the houmongi category.
Houmongi - "visiting wear." Can be used for visiting people, going to certain events (e.g. junior or senior high school graduations), and the like. It's a step down from the most formal type of kimono. In a pinch you could probably wear it to a wedding, but it's not the ideal.
Tomesode and furisode - very formal, similar to an evening gown. Could be worn to something like a wedding or other very formal party.

You will often see people wearing kimono on special events like Coming-of-Age Day, Shichigosan, New Year's day, and the like.
