Buy Traditional Japanese Kimono

buy traditional japanese kimono
Question: I'm lookingn for an online store specializing in traditional japanese kimonos?

I'm searching for three specific kimonos, and I want to see if I can buy them before I attempt making them myself. I have never made a kimono before, and I don't have time to learn right now.

If you don't know of any stores, then could you tell me where I might find a:
Sakura print kimono.
Autumn leaf kimono.
Violet (or lilac) kimono.

Thanks.T.x.

Answer: I'm assuming you want authentic kimono, not satin bathrobes. Ichiroya, Yamatoku, and Ryu Japan/Shinei sell second-hand kimono of all styles. Kimiono Market Sakura sells new yukata and polyester kimono, generally focusing on more informal outfits. The international section of Rakuten might be a good option if you want other kinds of new kimono, but keep in mind that new kimono are typically much more expensive than second-hand ones so for the sake of your wallet you're better off looking for second-hand kimono. You can also find them on eBay and Yahoo Japan Auctions, but I suggest staying away from auction sites unless you actually know what you're looking for and can separate the junky or too expensive items from the authentic and reasonably-priced items. Also, most of the sellers on Yahoo Japan Auctions don't ship overseas, so you would have to go through a shopping service like Celga or Noppin to bid and to receive your items.

You should also look at the Immortal Geisha forums. The Kitsuke section has a lot of information on how to make kimono and kimono accessories, and on what kinds of accessories you need for different kinds of kimono. This is very important if you plan on wearing you kimono because kimono come in different levels of formality and the materials and patterns vary based on the seasons, and you need to match all of the accessories to your kimono based on season and formality.

I can't believe it's not Kimono!
