Question: Tall woman, looking for second-hand kimono estimate?
Well, by American standards, I'm not THAT tall. But considering the average Japanese kimono is made for a 5'1" woman, I'm a bit tall. 5'10". I'd need at least a 70" length kimono.
I'm headed to the Hikone area in the fall, and I was wondering if there were any second hand kimono shops that have fairly nice kimono at reasonable prices, for someone my height. -__-; ;
I'm also open to online purchases, such as Ichiroya, but the very good condition, tall kimonos are extremely beyond my budget. ($500)
Answer: You can wear kimono that are within 10cm of your height, so you could actually get away with one as short as 67" and still wear it properly. You could probably go a little shorter but you might have to skip the ohashori if you do. Why don't you visit the Immortal Geisha forums or some of the kimono communities on Livejournal and ask what the taller community members do? They probably have better advice than most people here, if my experiences with other answer to kimono questions are any indication.
